Growing up, I was fortunate enough to be heavily involved in sports. Though I was given the opportunity to do so, I witnessed the obstacles my family had to face in order to make that happen, for not only myself, but my siblings as well. With all of these activities came costs that weren’t easy for my mother to attain. I can vividly remember being responsible for insurance fees, participation fees, travel costs, all while still having to purchase the equipment needed. If it weren’t for my mom doing all that she could possibly do, along with the support system that we were able to fall back on to carry us the rest of the way, I wouldn’t be where I am today; there is no doubt about that. Having experienced that, I know there are many kids that face similar circumstances, but unfortunately, don’t have a support system to depend on. Well, that’s where we come in. The IMagINe for Youth Foundation is here to give children the support they need in order to participate.
Looking back, playing sports was more than x’s and o’s. I learned to take the good with the bad, the bad with the good, and playing with countless faces taught me how to coexist and be a team player. These were all fundamentals that stuck with me on and off the field and into my daily life. I believe sports are a gateway to learning how to be successful in the real world and I strongly believe that every child deserves the same opportunity to learn and experience that for themselves. In fact, I urge them to do so.
I have always wanted to give back, and now is the time to do so. With that, I invite you to join me in making a difference. I’M IN. Are you?
